Your body is made up of 70 Trillion cells that work together to make up your body. Every single cell is controlled and operated by your nervous system.

Many People when they hear chiropractic think of back and bones but the reason chiropractors adjust your spine is because that is where all the neurological impulses coming from and going to the brain enter and exit.

Certain events in life can lead to spinal bones misaligning and putting pressure on nerves which causes problems with everything that nerve goes to. These problems can range from pain to organ problems.

Chiropractors work with the spine, not necessarily because it's the source of neck and back pain, but because it houses and protects the spinal cord and nervous system. Every vital life sustaining process depends on the integrity of this communication network between the brain and the body. When there is a breakdown of this communication it is known as a subluxation

What is a subluxation?  Chiropractors commonly recognize five categories of components present in the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC).

The osseous (bone) component is where the vertebrae are either out of position, not moving properly, or are undergoing physical changes such as degeneration. This component is sometimes known as kinesiopathology.

The Nerve Component is the malfunctioning of the nerve. Research has shown that only a small amount of pressure on spinal nerves can have a profound impact on the function of the nerves. This component is scientifically known as neuropathology.

The Muscle Component is also involved. Since the muscles help hold the vertebrae in place, and since nerves control the muscles themselves, muscles are an integral part of any VSC. In fact, muscles both affect, and are affected by the VSC. This component is known as myopathology.

The Soft Tissue Component is when you have misaligned vertebrae and pressure on nerves resulting in changes in the surrounding soft tissues. This means the tendons, ligaments, blood supply, and other tissues undergo changes. These changes can occur at the point of the VSC or far away at some end point of the affected nerves. This component is also known as histopathology.

The Chemical Component is when all these components of the VSC are acting on your body, and therefore causing some degree of chemical changes. These chemical changes can be slight or massive depending on what parts of your body are affected by your subluxations. This component is often known as biochemical abnormalities

We have all heard the age old saying of, “you are what you eat.” Yet, many of us don’t realize how true this is. The fact that what you put into your body today becomes a part of your body tomorrow is forgotten by most Americans leading to our diets being dictated by what tastes good. This has led to many health problems in America due to poor nutrition and the large amounts of chemicals and preservatives in the food we eat.
 

Nutrition does a body good!
The biggest problem most face when it comes to their diet is that they are overfed, yet undernourished. We consume large amounts of calories but the calories we consume have little to no nutritional value. Add this to the fact that many of us live a fast paced lifestyle where cooking a home cooked meal every night is not an option. A perfect example is the family of four where mom or dad is picking the kids up from school, taking them to soccer practice then helping them with their homework at night. There are too few hours in the day so instead of cooking a meal at home they go to fast food and pick up 99 cent cheese burgers or pizza for the entire family because it is quick, easy and cheap. This sets our children up from a young age for failure when it comes to their nutrition choices. If we teach children healthy habits while they are young such as exercise and proper nutrition then they will take these habits with them into adulthood. How are you and your family currently eating? The average American consumes 140lbs of sugar a year. This is not just a bad habit it is something that could be life threatening because cancer cells thrive on excess sugar for growth.

Every choice we make when it comes to eating has either a positive or a negative consequence, similar to Newton’s 3rd law of physics, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” This is how eating should be viewed. We need to take a look at what we are putting into our bodies and asking ourselves important questions such as will this food move me closer to health or closer to disease, rather than the question of does this food taste good. Healthy food choices need to be made a part of our lifestyle for optimal wellness and health which is why Dr Hamilton doesn’t try to take away the foods that you enjoy, rather he finds healthy options and teaches moderation when eating.
